This Privacy Policy describes how Gearlift ("the app", "we") handles information when you use it.
Gearlift does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide any personal information to use it. Every feature works with no login, no username, no email collection, no password. Signing in (below) is an optional choice you can make at any time, and you can stop using it or delete your account at any time without losing the ability to use the app.
Whether or not you sign in, Gearlift stores the following information locally on your device, using your device's standard app storage:
If you never sign in, none of this data is transmitted to us, to any server we operate, or to any third party. We cannot see it, access it, or recover it — it exists only on your device. If you uninstall the app, clear its storage, or lose your device without a backup, this data is gone permanently; there is no cloud account to recover it from unless you signed in (below).
If you choose to sign in, Gearlift uses Google Sign-In (Firebase Authentication) to identify your account. This shares basic information from your Google account — your name, email address, and a unique account identifier — with the app, for the purpose of authenticating you and syncing your data.
Once signed in, your workout history is copied to a private cloud database (Google Firestore) tied to your account, so it can sync across devices and survive a phone loss or reinstall. The first time you sign in, your existing on-device history is copied up to the cloud once. We do not share this data with third parties, use it for advertising, or sell it. It is used only to provide the app's own sync and backup functionality to you.
Signing in does not remove or replace the on-device copy described above — both exist, and the app continues to work fully if you are offline or choose to sign out.
If you signed in, you can permanently delete your account from the app's Settings at any time. This deletes your workout history from our cloud database, your account profile, and your sign-in identity — permanently and irreversibly. It does not delete your on-device workout history; that is a separate action ("Clear all data" in Settings), kept deliberately separate so deleting your account doesn't also erase what lives only on your phone.
You can ask us to delete the data we hold about you in either of these ways.
1. In the app (if you still have it installed): open Settings and choose "Delete account". This permanently deletes your cloud workout history, your account profile and your sign-in identity. To delete only some of your data without deleting your account, you can delete individual workouts from your history in the app; this also removes their cloud copy.
2. Without the app (for example, if you have uninstalled it): send an email to nuno.d.o.marques1997@gmail.com with the subject "Gearlift data deletion request", from the email address of the Google account you signed in with (this is how we confirm the account is yours). Tell us whether you want your whole account deleted or only some data (for example, your workout history). We will delete it and confirm by reply within 30 days.
What we can delete: the account information and the workout history stored in our cloud database. What we cannot delete: data that exists only on your device (we never receive it; uninstalling the app or using "Clear all data" in Settings removes it) and usage statistics that Firebase Analytics keeps in aggregate form and does not link to your name or email.
Exercise names, instructions, and photos are drawn from an open, public-domain exercise dataset. Exercise photos are loaded over the internet from a content delivery network (jsDelivr, serving files from a GitHub repository we maintain) rather than stored in the app itself. Loading an image involves your device making a standard web request to that service, which may log technical information common to any web request (such as your IP address and the file requested) under its own privacy practices — we do not receive or control this information.
Gearlift uses Google Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used — for example, which screens are opened and how often, and to detect crashes. This data is aggregated and, for users who don't sign in, is not linked to your name, email, or any other personal identifier, because we don't collect those in the first place. Firebase Analytics is provided by Google; see Google's Privacy Policy for how Google itself handles this data.
To do this, Firebase Analytics reads identifiers of your device: the Android advertising ID (if your device has one and you have not opted out of it in your device settings) and an app-instance ID generated by Firebase. We use them only for analytics (counting usage) — never to show ads, build advertising profiles, or sell data. You can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in your Android settings (Settings > Privacy > Ads).
Gearlift is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. The app's core functionality collects no personal information from anyone. The optional sign-in uses standard Google account sign-in, which itself is subject to Google's own age requirements and policies.
Gearlift does not display advertising and does not sell, rent, or share any data — on-device or cloud — with third parties for marketing purposes.
If this policy changes again, we'll update this page and change the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.

By using Gearlift, you agree to these terms.
Gearlift generates workout suggestions based on the equipment and muscles you select. It is provided for general fitness purposes and is not a substitute for professional medical or fitness advice.
You are responsible for exercising safely. Consult a doctor before starting any exercise program, particularly if you have a pre-existing health condition, are pregnant, or are new to exercise. Stop any exercise immediately if you feel pain, dizziness, or discomfort. Use correct form — Gearlift illustrates movements but cannot supervise you performing them.
Signing in and cloud sync are optional conveniences, provided "as is," without a guarantee of uninterrupted availability or that sync will always complete promptly. Deleting your account is permanent and irreversible, and does not affect data stored only on your device.
Gearlift is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee the app will be error-free, uninterrupted, or suitable for your specific fitness needs.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any injury, loss, or damage arising from your use of the app or reliance on the exercise information it provides.
Exercise data is drawn from a public-domain dataset. Gearlift's own design, branding, and code are our property; the exercise data itself remains public domain and unrestricted.
We may update the app and these terms over time. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
